Back view of the wings for my clockwork fairy automaton character, Katinka. Each wings is made of two layers of foam core board, with a layer of buckram (spray-painted bronze to look like wire mesh) sandwiched in-between. I cut out each layer of foam core board individually with an exacto knife, which was a complete bitch. I used hot glue to make the raised details outlining the gears and the scroll designs, then spray painted each layer gold, and glued it all together. I put gold bias tape around the outside of the wings to cover up all the raw edges, then made a harness out of leather to hold it snugly to my body. See the finished costume here: [link]
